Council Tax Frozen for a Third Year

Residents in South Northamptonshire will see no increase in the District Council’s element of their council tax for the third year running.

At a meeting of the full council on Wednesday, 27 February, councillors agreed to freeze council tax bills for the third consecutive year.

The budget allows for a freeze in council tax for the 2013/14 financial year and delivers an additional £109,000 of spending power for households in the district. For a band D property this is equivalent to a £3.39 annual saving making the annual charge of £170.37.

Councillor Ian McCord, portfolio holder for resources and change management, said:

“We are in a wonderful position to freeze council tax at the level first set in April 2010. This is a result of careful budgeting, and savings from joint working with Cherwell District Council, this really is good news for everyone.

“It’s important that we continue to help household budgets in any way we can and this will be an on-going priority.”
