Title:Broadband update for Grange Park
Category:News
Published:11 Mar 2013
Whilst BT has now officially been awarded the tender to become Northamptonshire’s preferred partner in the roll of fast broadband services throughout the County, there are some contract specifications that are still being negotiated and it is hoped that these will be agreed upon within the next 10 days to allow for the signing of the contracts by the end of March.

Once signed in-depth detailed planning will take place to work out the logistics in delivering these services throughout the County. I am advised by the East Midlands partnership director for BT that with respect to Grange Park, BT Open Reach needs to complete a study to determine which properties they can deliver fibre to the premises (FTTP) and where it would be more economic and faster to deliver fibre to the cabinet (FTTC).

Fibre to the premises can deliver speeds of up to 300mb whilst fibre to the cabinet would be around 80mb. Either way it would be a welcome change to current the 0.5 to 1.5mb.

The time scale for this project to be completed by has “slipped” as a result of the tender process and the on-going negotiations. Delivery of Fast Broadband is now expected to be completed by the end of this year/ beginning of next year, however, there is also a slim chance that this timetable may be brought forward.

This delay is disappointing, as the original plan was for these services to be in place by this May at the latest, however, at least BT will now be tied to a contract to deliver a fast broadband network.

As more updates are made known I will advise via the Grange Park Parish website.

Kind Regards
